Frequently Asked Questions

With todays everchanging technology, it pays to have a source where you can get reliable information on The New Thing.  Below are some frequently asked questions.

Q: What is High Definition?

A: High definition refers to a picture quality that is five times more detailed than your current standard definition picture.

Q: What equipment do you need to have High Definition?

A:  At the bare minimum you need to have a high definition television, HD programming from your satellite or cable provider, and a cable that is able to carry HD signal (HDMI cable, component cable, DVI cable) which are accessories and are not refering to the cable wires in your house.

Q: How do I tell if my tv is capable of a High Definition picture?

A: Most flat screen tv's are HD capable, but not all.  The best way to tell is to look at the back of your tv for a port that says HDMI or DVI.  Some tv's are HD capable which do not have either of those 2 ports.  Instead they have 3 ports which are color coded.  The colors will be green, blue, and red.

Q: Do the local stations come through in High definition?

A:  Yes.  While almost all of the big shows are in HD not all broadcasts are in HD.  For example, your local news might not be in HD, but your daytime talk shows will be.

Q: What is a DVR?

A:  A DVR is a digital video recorder.  Which means that you can pause, rewind, and record Live tv.  You can also set your DVR to record a show that will be on later.  Than after it records you can watch it at your leisure.

Q: Are you able to access your satellite programming from the internet?

A:  With some of the newer equipment you are able to remotely access your satellite programming from anywhere you have a high speed internet connection.  This is useful for our soldiers overseas or anyone who is away from home frequently.

Q: How reliable are todays satellite dishes?

A:  Todays satellite dishes are very reliable.  You might lose service temporarily in heavy downpours or when snow lays on top of your dish.

Q: What is a dual tuner?

A:  A dual tuner is a single satellite reciever which controls two tv's and each tv is able to watch separate programs at the same time.
